Church & The Community
Our History
The First Lady of the Rose of Sharon Church of God in Christ was
challenged by the surrounding community of the church; to create a
non-profit 501 (C) (3) as a tool to help those within the community that were in need.
As a result, The Rose of Sharon Development Corporation was born, with the First lady as the founder; she went to work. a Board of Directors was elected, and the work began.
The initial goal was to help families, single moms, and senior citizens attain economic independence, and it was successful.

Three new projects were created and implemented:
-
Transitional Housing Program
-
Back to School Rally (annual)
-
Scholarship Giveaway- (annual) " Scholarship Sunday"

Transitional Housing Program
This program allowed single mothers and their children; who found themselves in a crisis FREE housing for 18 months. At which time, they can take a step back, breathe, and refocus within a safe, secure, and loving environment.

Back to School Rally

As a Grand Finale to summer end, our annual Back to School Rally takes place in August/September, where we distribute various-size backpacks filled with school supplies. i.e., binders, notebooks, spiral tablets, pens, pencils, markers, highlighters, index cards, glue, crayons, and more.

Then we distributed them to local schools and neighborhood children; this small jester aids in the financial burden families experience each year at the beginning of the school year.

On the day of our " Back to School Rally," we additionally set up the church parking lot and picnic area for Food & Fun. Food and beverages, games, barber cuts, immunizations, prayer, and more are all complimentary and available for all who attend.

Scholarship Giveaway- " Scholarship Sunday"

Scholarships are financial aid awards designed to help students pay for an undergraduate or graduate degree. C.O.R.E scholarship awards are sent directly to the award recipient's college or university to which they have been accepted.
In 2007, the RSDC took another leap of faith,
after restructuring, the organization emerged with a greater vision for the communities and families it serves; and Community Outreach and Evangelism,( C.O.R.E.) was born!
